Groups and Coalitions

Indiana University is one of America’s acclaimed institutions of higher education. In order to achieve our mission of excellence in education and research, IU maintains alliances with numerous organizations and coalitions that further higher education. Below is a sampling of these alliances.

American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU)

AASCU’s 430 public college and university members are found throughout the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The Association includes campuses with extensive offerings in law, medicine, and doctoral education, as well as campuses offering associate degrees to complement baccalaureate studies. Three qualities are common to virtually every member institution: AASCU members are institutions of access and opportunity, they are student centered, and they are “stewards of place.”

American Council on Education (ACE)

Founded in 1918, ACE is the major coordinating body for all of the nation’s higher education institutions, seeking to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

The AAMC is a nonprofit association founded in 1876 to work for reform in medical education.

Association of American Universities (AAU)

The AAU is an organization of research universities devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education. It consists of 60 U.S. universities and 2 Canadian universities.

Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)

CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, and development.

National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC)

Founded in 1887, NASULGC is one of the oldest higher education associations in the nation.

The Science Coalition

The mission of The Science Coalition is to expand and strengthen the federal government’s investment in university-based scientific, medical, engineering, and agricultural research.

Student Aid Alliance (SAA)

The Student Aid Alliance is a coalition of organizations representing students, colleges and universities, and others who believe that all qualified students should be able to go to college regardless of their financial resources.
